An exclusive safari experience: what to expect

Kurula – a private, exclusive game lodge experience

What does Safari With Us mean when we say exclusive game lodge? Well, we choose only the best private lodges and this specific lodge we collaborate with, can only sleep 10 guests. With the staff being extra friendly and helpful, all your needs are attended to personally. They go the extra mile!

What to expect?

For the luxury traveler, we have created an exclusive safari lodge package, travelling either four days or five days. This is your chance to unwind completely and connect with nature. The lodge we are visiting, is in the private Kruger part – Klaseri with no fences between the lodge and nature. This is the non-commercial area of the Kruger National park and is not open to the public. Wild animals have the chance of coming up, close and personal with guests and frequently enjoy relaxing at the waterhole. Our beautiful lodge’s deck overlooks the waterhole and guests can enjoy a drink while relaxing and watching the animals.

Upon arrival at this exclusive safari lodge

After a long and beautiful drive to Kurula, we are welcomed with friendly faces, the owner himself and a nice refreshing juice. Our luggage is carried to our beautifully decorated rooms by the friendly staff while we receive an enlightening tour of the lodge given by one of Kurula’s employees, or the owner himself. The lodge is set up with 5 beautifully decorated rooms each with their own en-suite bathroom as well as a private deck overlooking the bushveld. The rest of the lodge consists of an open-plan living room, bar and dining room with the kitchen in the middle. As mentioned before, the main deck overlooks the waterhole where various animals come, searching for some refreshments. After the tour, the guests have time to freshen up before the leave on their game drive.

Sunset game drive

Just before sunset, we embark on an exciting sunset-, followed by an evening game drive. We have the opportunity to spot many animals including the Big 5 (rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard) as well as many other mammals, amphibians, insects and birdlife. Our guide is very committed to giving the best possible experience and will often go off-road, tracking the wildlife. When the sun starts to set, we stop for some refreshments and enjoy the beautiful African sunset. Afterwards, we continue with our evening game drive spotting the nightlife and listening to sounds of the bush. It is truly amazing.

And finally breakfast time

On the way back to the lodge, the staff is informed that a group of hungry guests are on their way. Apon arrival, guests are welcomed with a scrumptious looking continental breakfast table. They help themselves – but they are warned… An even more delicious warm breakfast is on its way! Breakfast is prepared in the form of either an omelet, scrambled or fried eggs along with the traditional sausages, bacon, tomato, mushrooms and toast. The chef always has something sweet up her sleeve, and in the mornings, it is in the form of home baked lemon, poppy seed muffins. Along with a coffee, guests are ready to start their day.

Time to unwind

After breakfast, guests have some time to themselves where they can unwind and do whatever their hearts desire. A little bit later (if weather permitted), guests leave for a bush walk. What is a bushwalk? It is where you really become one with nature. With no vehicle and only your armed and experienced ranger, you embark on a walk through the bush. Here you will see many wildlife including antelope, buffalo, wildebeest, elephants, many different insects and a variety of plant life. It truly is something to experience.

After the bushwalk, the guests have some more time to unwind before leaving on another sunset- and evening game drive.  Depending on what season you are visiting this exclusive lodge – you can either enjoy a drink by the swimming pool overlooking the bush in the summer or enjoy a nice glass of red wine in front of the fire place in the winter.

A traditional South African farewell dinner

On the last night of the guests’ stay at Kurula, the private chef and her team prepares them a traditional South African meal called a “braai”. Meat is cooked over open coals and served with delicious condiments such as salads and bread. After dessert and dinner guests can unwind and relax for the last time and connect with nature before heading back to the busy city life.
