Soweto is a city within a city. It has its own unique rhythm and vibe that attracts tourists and visitors from across the globe. Your guide on our Soweto day tour is born and bred in Soweto and he knows all the hotspots and places of interest. You will experience the unique township culture and atmosphere.

Soweto offers many great Kodak moments so be sure to bring your camera along. During out trip we pass the National Football Stadium City, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area where we will take a walk through a local flea market where vendors selling just about anything. In Orlando West you will experience the life on Vilakazi Street. We also drive past the former home of Nelson Mandela as well as the home Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will learn about the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976 and the liberation struggle that followed. We pass Mandela House and visit to the museum is optional.

Our Soweto Tour then takes us into a shanty town where you have the opportunity to interact with locals. Our tour takes us past the Soweto Campus as well as the Johannesburg University. We then stop at the 3rd largest hospital in the world – The Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. We enjoy lunch at a local diner and then continue to the Apartheid Museum.

 

Note Apartheid museum is only open Wednesday to Sundays.

 

Closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
