Mokoro Camping Safari - 2 Day
FROM I PER PERSON$ 430
Exciting 2 Day Boro Island Mokoro Adventure
At some time Mokoros were the only form of transport in the Delta. Used for fishing, reed harvesting, transporting people and goods. The slim design of the craft allows it to part the lily pads and reeds as it glides through the crystal clear water, while the passengers slip into a daydream-like state, entranced by the rocking sensation and the magic of the Okavango! The guide stands at the rear of the craft, propelling the Mokoro with a long wooden pole through the water.
You'll find out that the silence of this wilderness area actually hums with many sounds, from the chorus of insects and frogs to bird calls and the breeze rustling through the reeds. Somehow, every one of your senses becomes wonderfully alive. The tiniest creatures can be seen in colourful clarity and you can get really close to animals drinking at the water's edge.
You could spot an exotic looking frog clinging to the reeds, Elephant at the water's edge and Lion on the savannah all in one trip. You may even get a look at the rarely-sighted Sitatunga, a type of antelope, delicately picking its way across the knee and thigh-deep parts of this magical wetland.

Day by Day Itinerary for 2 Day Mokoro Camping Safari
Day 1: Pick up and Mokoro Safari
Departing at 06:00am. You will be picked up early morning from any surrounding Lodges or resorts in the Maun area and transferred to the closest boat station (Dependent on rainfall and time of year) where you will meet you Mokoro guide and poler. Your Mokoro safari will begin as you head out into the many reed channels of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will already have an update of any exciting or special sightings in the area. Most guide are from the Bayei tribal people who many believe to be the first inhabitants of the Okavango Delta, “people of the Delta” so to speak. You will learn about all aspects of this magical inland oasis from the tiniest of creatures, beautiful reed frogs and big 5 mammal species along the water edge. Your guide will also interpret nature to you in a unique manner and show you traditional and medicinal uses of wild plants in the Delta.
After a peaceful trip in your Mokoro you will arrive at your campsite on Boro Island situated in the heart of southern Okavango delta. “Rustic Luxury” would be the best way to describe this campsites layout. Enjoy a freshly prepared traditional lunch after settling to your surroundings before heading out for a nature walk which will return just before sunset. Returning to a cozy looking lantern lit camp surrounding a campfire. Feast, revel and enjoy the evening ahead as you tuck into a delicious dinner discussing the day’s sightings and listening to your camping team of staff and guides traditional stories, songs and dance as you wind down for the night on the banks of the Okavango Delta!
Day 2: Drop off
An early morning start where you kick start day along with the many birdcalls, sipping on some tea or coffee before heading out on a 2 hour nature walk. Upon returning you will enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading out on your Morning Mokoro safari, which eventually makes its way back to the boat station where your transfer vehicle would be waiting. Returning at about 12:00pm.
