Day by Day itinerary for 7 Day Kwa Zulu Natal Tour

Day 1:   Johannesburg to Natal South Coast

We pick you up from the airport, your hotel or other pre-arranged location in and around Johannesburg. We travel in a comfortable vehicle and head toward the Natal south coast. The route takes us along the N3 towards the rolling green hills of the Natal mid-lands. As we approach Estcourt the site of the towering Drakensberg Mountains will command your attention. Here we make a quick stop so you can take-in the amazing landscapes and views provided by rolling grasslands, pristine river valleys, mountain ranges and rocky gorges.  We also stop for a quick lunch in Estcourt.

After lunch we take a slight detour via the lush Karkloof Indigenous Forest  and along the midlands meander where you will experience jaw-dropping scenery.  Here are also some attractions to visit including the Mandela capture site.  (We will spend a night here on the return from Sani Pass)

Howick is the next town after the Midlands Meander, and here we re-join the N3 which takes us  straight into the city of Durban. Time depending we could visit some attractions.

From Durban we travel along the south coast to Port Shepstone and our accommodation at San Lameer resort and spa.  Here you can relax and explore the resort, make use of facilities and dine at the onsite restaurant.

Day 2: Fishing Boat Charter

We depart for an exciting boat charter and 5 hour fishing adventure.

After your fishing charter we return to San Lameer where you can freshen up,

You have free time for the res of day to explore the area, visit beaches and so on.

Day 3:  Zip-lining and wild-life viewing

After breakfast we travel to  Lake Eland where there are a  lot of activities to choose from including self-drive game viewing of the abundant wildlife and flora, or walking across the 80m suspension bridge, as well as their exhilarating Zip Line Tour.

Zip Line Extreme

The Zip eXtreme  first slide drops down over  a kilometer and a provides a thrilling ride reaching speeds of up to 160 kms per hour. One of the zip-lines soars 680m high above the Oribi Gorge. The views from that height are breathtaking and the experience is exhilarating.  Another slide crosses over the lake and if you stretch your legs and toes far enough you might just be able to touch the water!

There are several other activities at Lake Eland including non-motorized scooter tours, suspension bridge walk, game drives, mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and paint ball.

Activities at Lake Eland are optional and for own account. The entrance fee is included in the package price.

After your adventurous day at Lake Eland we return to accommodation.

Day 4: Port Edward to Sani Pass

After a hearty breakfast we check out from Sam Lameer. We then visit the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve. The reserve is a botanical paradise consisting of an interesting stretch of riverine forest and steep rocky cliffs. Bordering the Umtamvuna River, the 3 247 hectare reserve boasts a fine display of flowers in springtime. There are numerous walks highlighting the fantastic scenery of different parts of the reserve.

you can take-in the magnificent views of the deep Umtamvuna River Gorge. You can also hike the 30 minute Kingfisher Trail or the 2 hours Fish Eagle Trail.

We then travel to Underberg, the gateway to the Sani Pass.

In the afternoon we check in at our accommodation near the Sani Pass.

Day 5: Sani Pass

After breakfast you will be collected from your accommodation for a fascinating Sani Pass tour in a 4x4 vehicle. Sani Pass is the most dramatic of all South African mountain passes. It out distances, out climbs, and out performs all it's competitors with relative ease to have become the most iconic gravel pass in SA.

Sani Pass

Sani Pass is a a treacherous winding gravel track connecting South Africa with the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. The Sani Pass runs between the South African and Lesotho border posts. Once we pass Lesotho border security,  we head to the Sani Mountain Lodge – home of the Highest Pub in Africa where you can enjoy a rewarding drink or two.

After you Sani Pass adventure return to accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Natal Midlands

After breakfast we leave Kwa-Sani region behind and travel to the Natal midlands.  We check in at the Karkloof Nature Reserve.

Karkloof Falls

Karkloof offers beautiful scenery, including the  Karkloof Falls.  The Canopy Tour is not to be missed! You can also visit the Crane and Conservation Centre. Karkloof is also well-known for its mountain bike trails.

Day 7: Return to Johannesburg

After breakfast we check out from Karkloof and travel back to Johannesburg.
