Day by Day Itinerary for 10 Day Garden Route Luxury Tour

Day 1: Cape Town – Floreal House

Your guide will pick you up from the airport, hotel or any other pre-arranged location in and around Cape Town. Travel in a luxury vehicle and head towards the stately mansion known as Floreal House. Here, you’ll spend your first night of this fabulous tour. You can spend the day relaxing by the pool or exploring Cape Town.  (Lunch & Dinner are on own account). 

Day 2: Floreal House in Cape Town to Rouxwil in the OverKaap

We’ll start the day with a hearty breakfast at Floreal House. After breakfast, we’ll leave the Mother City behind and travel along the N2 to the picturesque town of Gordon’s Bay. This is where the whale route starts. Here, we’ll stop for a refreshment or two before continuing our journey along the R44 as it snakes along the bottom parts of the Hottentots Holland mountains.

This coastal road is one of the most scenic routes you can experience. The endless views stretch across False Bay and the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. On our way, we’ll pass the quaint sea side towns of Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay. Here you can optionally visit the penguin colony before stopping at the bustling coastal village of Kleinmond for a light lunch. You will some time to explore the small tourist shops or simply take in the spectacular views across the ocean. During whale season you might be lucky enough to spot some whales off-shore.

After lunch, we’ll make our way to Rouxwil, one of the beautiful farm lodges in the OverKaap.  Rouxwil is a 5-star farm guest house and here, you can enjoy the tranquility of the countryside and the warm friendly hospitality of your hosts.  One of the highlights during your short stay will be a personalized farm tour. Each farm tour is different and unique depending of the time of year and the season. One thing for sure is that it will be a memorable experience! Another equally important highlight is their yummy homemade food, simply the best homemade food ever – farm style.

Day 3: Rouxwil in OverKaap to Mooiplaas in Oudtshoorn

After a tasty scrumptious breakfast and any optional morning activities, we’ll depart Rouxwil and the Overberg.  We’ll drive drive along the N2 and later connect with the famous R62 that will take us all the way to Mooiplaas in the outskirts of Oudtshoorn. On the way, we’ll make some scenic stops and you will also have opportunity for refreshments and photos. We’ll arrive at Mooiplaas in the afternoon which will give you some time to relax before dinner.

Day 4: Activities in and around Oudtshoorn

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll visit High Gate which is one of the well known working ostrich farms*. You will be taken on a guided tour of the farm and learn many interesting facts about ostriches and ostrich farming. Lunch is included.

After the High Gate tour, we’ll return to Mooiplaas where you can spend the rest of the day as you please. Relax by the pool or pamper yourself to a spa treatment. Dinner and overnight in your luxury apartment at Mooiplaas.

Day 5: Cango Caves | Cango Wildlife Ranch | Knysna

After a 5-star breakfast, we’ll drive to the world renowned Cango Caves located at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains. Here, you will marvel at the spectacular underground world of precambrian limestone ridges, dripstone caverns, towering formations as well amazing stalactites and stalagmites. This awesome underground cave system comprises an impressive network of chambers, halls and channels that stretch for many miles.

After a tour of the caves, you will enjoy a light lunch at the onsite restaurant. We’ll then make our way to the Cango Wildlife Ranch.

The Cango Wildlife Ranch is home to some 90 species. Anything from the giant Argentine Tegu to the Pygmy Hippos can be found here. This ranch is one of the largest Cheetah conservation centers in the world. Some highlights include Cheetahland, Kuranda Forest Aviary, Lemur Falls, a snake park and Valley of the Ancients.

After our visit to the Cango Wildlife Ranch, we’ll make our way to the stately Bradach Manor in Knysna where you will spend the next two nights.

Day 6: Optional activities in and around Knysna  – (Whale watching in season)

There are many things to do in and around Knysna.  During whale season you might opt for an exhilarating boat trip where you board a high speed catamaran that will take you on an adventure packed whale watching excursion. You will feel adrenalin surges as the pilot navigates the catamaran through the notorious Knysna Heads and then applies full throttle as you head out deep into the Indian Ocean in search of the magnificent sea creatures that inhabit these waters. Maybe you’ll get lucky and also see and watch a pod of dolphins riding the waves alongside the boat.

When we return, you can spend the rest of the day relaxing next to the pool or enjoy souvenir shopping at the Knysna waterfront.

Please note: whale watching is only conducted during the whale season (June – November). Out of season, an alternative boat trip or other activity can be arranged.

Other optional activities include Birds of Eden, Monkeyland, Wildlife awareness center and more.

In the evening, you can enjoy dinner at your accommodation or you may elect to dine out at one of the recommended restaurants in the area. Dinner is own account.

Day 7: Knysna to Tsitsikamma

After a full course breakfast we depart for Tsitsikamma. On the way you have options such as a visit to the wildlife awareness center where you will become acquainted with the furry five namely the black-footed cats, African wild cats, Caracal, Serval and Cheetah – all living in a semi-natural environment. You can also elect to either visit the multi-species free-roaming primate sanctuary  (monkeyland) or the Birds of Eden (the largest free flight bird aviary in the world).

Lunch will be at a well-known restaurant or estate in the area.

After a light lunch, we will make our way to  the awe inspiring Tsitsikamma Forest. Here, you will experience the natural beauty of the  indigenous forests, the dramatic coastline and the majestic Indian Ocean. Apart from the pristine scenery, this marine reserve also offers numerous activities and adventures. These include nature trails, hikes, walks, zip lining, canoeing, mountain biking, bungee jumping and more. All activities are optional and on your own account.

We overnight at a guest lodge somewhere in the reserve. Dinner at a restaurant (own account).

Day 8: Tsitsikamma to Woodall, Port Elizabeth

After enjoying a splendid breakfast, you can engage in some optional activities. We’ll depart after a late lunch and make our way towards the stunning Woodall Country Lodge. This 6-star guesthouse is located on a citrus farm some 80 km outside Port Elizabeth. Woodall is considered one of the most luxurious of farm-style guest houses in the area.

After arrival and check in, you can spend the rest of the day as you please. Relax next to your private slash pool, enjoy a drink in their entertainment area or pamper yourself at the in-house spa and health center.

Dinner is a 6-star affair.

Day 9: Addo Game Drive

After an enjoyable breakfast, we will head off to the Addo Elephant Park and enjoy an exciting and memorable game drive. The park is situated in the dense valley of the Sundays River region. Notwithstanding its name, this park is home to many animals including the BIG 5. Expect to see Elephants as well as many other animals.

The Addo National Park is certainly a unique and diverse wildlife sanctuary and a game drive in this reserve won’t be disappointing.

After your game drive, we will enjoy some light refreshments at one of the restaurants in the park. Afterwards, we return to Woodall Country House where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 10: Woodall to Port Elizabeth

After a full course breakfast, its time to check out and depart to Port Elizabeth where our guide will drop you off at the airport or your preferred destination.
