Day by Day Itinerary for 7 Day Kalahari - Kgalagadi Safari

DAY 1:  Kalahari Luxury Tented Camp (380km)

We pick you up at 8h30 from an agreed location (in and around Upington) and head for the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. On the way we stop at the Norokei Salt Pans (natural salt mine) and the Khomani San Bushmen to view their art.

We pass through Twee Rivieren and game drive towards Mata Mata. This is a good time to be on the lookout for the famous Kalahari Lion as well as the smaller inhabitants of the desert such as the meerkat, suricate, ground squirrel and mongoose. We make an afternoon arrival at The Kalahari Luxury Tented Camp.  Check in and short rest before we depart on another game drive to explore this area.

• Overnight: Kalahari Luxury Tented Camp – unfenced (or Mata Mata for camping option)

DAY 2: Nossob (150 km)

We make an early morning departure and head towards Nossob stalk driving as we go along. This is a good time to learn more about the Kalahari and it’s secrets.  This is the time to see Gemsbok – the ‘prince’ of the Kalahari, as well as Hartebees, Springbok, Wildebeest and maybe even predators. After arrival and Nossob we check into lodge and enjoy a short rest. Later we depart on a game drive until gates close.

In the camp you can visit the hide which has a  spotlight that illuminates areas where animals coming to drink in the daark. Optional sunset drive with rangers after gates closed.

DAY 3: Nossob camping or chalets

After breakfast we game drive in a northerly direction visiting various waterholes enroute. We inspect the animal tracks in the sand roads to learn more about what happened the night before. We spend some time at a waterhole to observe the wonderful animal and bird life. Regular game reports about sightings help us plan our game drives.

• Overnight Nossob:  Camping or Chalets
• Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 4:  Twee Rivieren (160 km)

We depart south along the Nossob river bed. Game drive until Twee Rivieren.  Arrival at Twee Rivieren  and check into our lodge for a short rest. Optional 3 hour sunset- or Night game drive with rangers in an open truck. 

• Overnight Twee Rivieren:  Camping or Chalets
• Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 5:  Augrabies (450 km)

You have the option of an early morning bush walk with a park ranger. After breakfast we game drive north & west during which time you will see some of the most beautiful red dunes. This is a good time to see gemsbok and ostrich. We also visit the museum at Auchterlonie after which we return to Twee Rivieren.  Check out and drive straight to Augrabies. Late afternoon arrival and check in. You have some own time. Optional night drive in open vehicle.

DAY 6: Augrabies National Park

Today you enjoy various activities at Augrabies.

• Visit the Falls – the impressive falls and the sound and power of the water will stay with you a long time
• Hike on the Dassie Nature trail.
• Half day river rafting (mild)
• Moon rock summit for a fantastic view of the area
• View from top of the Swart Rante hills is equally impressive
• Oranjekom & Ararat viewpoints overlook the massive gorge below
• Echo corner for stunning scenery and amazing echo effects

You will have good opportunities to spot Rock hyrax (dassie), Broadley’s Flat Lizard, Klipspringer, Verreaux’s (Black) Eagle and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra

Augrabies has full facilities.

Day 7: Return to Upington (140 km)

After breakfast we depart Augrabies. Today we drive a different route on the other side of the Orange river, via the small town of Kakamas visiting the loveliest Quiver Tree sightings (Aloe Tachtoma) as well as the Water wheels – used in the old days to irrigate the farms. We will also visit Bezalel wine farm after which we return to Upington. Late afternoon arrival and drop off. Tour ends.
